SHELLY GOLDSTEIN
"SONGS FOR LOVERS & THOSE THEY'VE
DUMPED"
Singer-author-comedienne Shelly Goldstein returned to performing after over 10 years as a successful TV writer-producer, working with such diverse artists as Cybill Shepherd, N SYNC, Michael McKean, Tracey Ullman and Yoko Ono. She has produced every genre of TV, including seven episodes of VH-1's BEHIND THE MUSIC. With two SRO engagements at Los Angeles' legendary GARDENIA (7066 Santa Monica Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA - 323-467-7444), Shelly Goldstein is currently in concert throughout the United States and Great Britain with the latest edition of her show "Songs For Lovers & Those They've Dumped" Shelly's show, "Gay Man Trapped Inside the Body of a Straight Girl" received raves in London, LA, Belfast, San Juan and Phoenix.
Shelly combines contemporary and classic Broadway with early rock/pop (Carole King, Laura Nyro, Dusty Springfield, Paul Simon, Randy Newman, Lennon-McCartney, Jeff Barry & Phil Spector - Ellie Greenwich) and her own comic songs which are quickly becoming sought after by cabaret artists across the country. Her comedy looks at life in the post-9/11 world (through her song, "How Lovely When News Was Stupid"), surviving Hollywood as a 30-something woman and the absurd "tragedy of errors" which is romance in the 21st Century.
Shelly recently broke attendance records at London's famed PIZZA ON THE PARK.

-- Warwick Thomas, London METRO
"The evening is one I’m glad I didn’t miss. Shelly Goldstein is no wuss, she can belt with the best of them and has an endearing personality with a raspy, forked tongue when she needs it! I am sure that the audience at Pizza on the Park will eagerly await her return. I look forward to seeing her again and soon."
-- Paul Nelson (indielondon.com & rainbownet.com)
"The new Ms. Midler."
-- Paul Webb, gay.com/London
As for the critics here in the States:
"Shelly Goldstein kept the audience spellbound. The throng could see why she is busy writing for the likes of Cybill Shepard and Tracey Ullman. Shelly's comedic changes to I DON'T KNOW HOW TO LOVE HIM and her parody song JUST CALL MY AGENT IN THE MORNING were highlights of not just last night but of our over three years of presenting the brightest shining stars of the Cabaret World. Shelly received a well deserved standing ovation from the crowd."
-- Wayne Sutton, Johnny Foley’s SAN FRANCISCO
"Shelly Goldstein left Melissa Etheridge, Oscar scribe Bruce Vilanch and a roomful of Hollywood heavyweights begging for more."
-- George Christy, NOB HILLS NEWS
"If you live in Southern California, you have the chance to hear a superb singer and comedienne, Shelly Goldstein."
-- Mark Evanier - POV Online. Com 4/27/02
"An Ode to Shelly Goldstein:
Throughout our lives, we come in contact with people like Shelly Goldstein who fill us up and make us feel as though we can accomplish anything in life. Artists like Shelly make us laugh and cry with them, sharing their most personal moments with us, unconstrained by thoughts of how we will perceive them, their only concern being that they are painting an honest self-portrait. Witnessing someone like Shelly Goldstein is truly a gift."
-- Robin Orloff, LA CABARET
"A little lady managed to wedge her colossal talent into a tight L-shaped room and blew the roof off the joint. Brava, Shelly!"
-- Doug Molitor, PAGE 11/23/02
"I always judge how well I enjoy something by the amount of bodily fluids it produces. Watching Shelly Goldstein at the Gardenia last night, I had tears (of laughter and of appreciation) in my eyes for most of the time, and my sinuses drained like Niagras. It was a two Kleenex Pocket Pak evening. Shelly's voice was clear, crisp and strong, and her original lyrics were hysterically perfect. Her come back when the sound went off was absolute professionalism - funny, and she moved right along. See this show!"
-- Bob Stone, HOLLYWOOD SCRIPTWRITER magazine
"Shelly Goldstein has something that really speaks to the audience. The comic duet (with Ray Jessel) was laugh-out-loud funny, but she also brings a touching vulnerability to the ballads she sings."
-- Joey Nigro-Nilsen, NYC Cabaret Singer
"I am now an Official Enthusiastic Fan of Shelly Goldstein! What a well-written show, what a terrifically performed evening, and since one person was responsible for both elements, well, I was knocked out. The closing number alone was worth the price of admission."
-- Courtney Flavin, PAGE 2/14/02
"My special guest will be LA's SHELLY GOLDSTEIN. SHELLY is a tremendous performer, a terrific singer and a very funny lady who writes her own brilliant material."
-- Ray Jessel, Songwriter & Cabaret Performer 11-26-02
"Shelly is a wonderful, funny, original, gifted performer, and her show is a guaranteed great evening in town. You'll have a great time."
-- Treva Silverman, Emmy Winning Writer-Producer.
"Everyone at the party commented on how wonderful Shelly was and how much she added to the evening. I’ve thrown holiday parties for over 20 years, with entertainment at every one and Shelly was, without a doubt, the best performer I’ve ever hired. She made the evening memorable. And the original lyrics she wrote for me! I’m still laughing and crying."
-- Adina Savin, VP Business Affairs, Walt Disney Co
